As legitimate tag teams formed in the National Wrasslin’ League in 2017, the decision was made to create a tag team title.
The tournament to crown inaugural NWL Tag Team champions began on September 2, 2017 as The Besties in the World bested The Howletts. On September 15, The Foundation beat the upstart team of Jack Foster & Anthony Gutierrez. The final was set for the Scottish Rite in Kansas City.
The title was never defended in Saint Louis.
