Harley Race, one of the greatest professional wrestlers ever, died on August 1, 2019 due to complications from lung cancer. He was 76.

The beloved St. Louis Wrestling Hall of Famer held the lineal world heavyweight crown on eight occasions, for a combined 1,802 days, the sixth longest of any champion in the 114-year history of the title.

Race’s impact in Saint Louis during its territory heyday was tremendous. Race was Sam Muchnick’s Missouri heavyweight champion seven times, and a mainstay of Wrestling at the Chase on KPLR.

Along with Bob Geigel, Verne Gagne, and Pat O’Connor, Harley purchased the St. Louis Wrestling Club after Muchnick’s retirement in the early 1980s.

Since 1999, Race has owned and operated World League Wrestling, a training center and promotion. World League Wrestling’s event on Saturday, August 3 ran as scheduled.

The public is welcome to a free memorial event at the Race Wrestling Arena (198 Cherry Blossom Way) in Troy, Mo. on Sunday, August 11. This is not a wrestling card, but rather a time for sharing stories. It begins at 3.

“The Boss” will be sorely missed.

World League Wrestling presents its biggest card since March, at the Race Wrestling Arena in Troy, Mo. on Saturday, August 3.

Da’Marius Jones has issued an open challenge for his weight limit title. Who will answer the call at 220 lbs. or less?

Plus, Lucy Mendez defends her title for the first time.

A huge four-way Dynamo Pro championship match tops the bill at Concordia Turners in Saint Louis on Saturday, July 27.

This is only the second time the title will be contested in a match with four men (the only other time was in February 2016).

Wrestling personalities and fans mourn the loss of Bryan Like, professionally known as Keon Option.

Option was a former Dynamo Pro Tag Team champion, and had been active in Saint Louis since 2014.

Like was passionate about social justice and improving his community. He ran for the Missouri House of Representatives District 71 in 2016.

A mixed tag team match headlines MMWA Wrestling’s “Christmas in July” event at the South Broadway Athletic Club on Saturday, July 13.

Gimmick Tree Entertainment and SICW present one of the biggest events of the year on Saturday, June 29 at the Belle-Clair Fairgrounds & Expo Center in Belleville, Ill.

The main event features a Modern Vintage Wrestling title bout. Pennsylvania-based MVW is a partner of GTE.

Local fans will be most interested in Tommy Dreamer and Attila Khan’s  “Extreme Rules” match. Will the hardcore icon Dreamer be the man to finally stop the Mongolian madman’s path of destruction?

Dynamo Pro Wrestling presents its second unique summer event of the season at Gateway Harley-Davidson in Saint Louis on Thursday, June 20.

Gateway Harley-Davidson champion Heart Throb Jaden is expected to defend his belt that he won in the battle royal last month.

A full card will take place, but the exact matches have yet to be announced.

Bell at 6. This is a free event.

The Saint Louis Taco Festival at Ballpark Village St. Louis hosts Dynamo Pro Wrestling on Saturday, June 15.

The ring will be located next to the chihuahua races.
